Big Rideau Lake

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Big Rideau Lake

Post by starrman »

Hey Anglers

I'm looking for a little advice on Big Rideau Lake. I'm heading there this weekend in search of large and small mouth. I'm putting the boat in near Portland, so I'll start there. It's the first time on the lake and I'd like to boat some nice fish.

Any advice is appreciated.

Starman,

Virtually all the islands out front of Portland have coontail weed beds somewhere around them.

Try around the north side of Paymans Island and the shoal that runs out west of the island.

Just outside Portland there is a shoal just west of the channel called cruiser cracker. Just past that is a point and off that point is a long narrow weed bed.

These weedbeds are in 10-15 ft of water and may look sparse but thats ok. Fish around the edges with a plastic worm, jig or crankbait. Early morning or evening try a topwater over the weeds. The waters clear and the bass will come up a long way for a topwater.

If you want PM me if you need a couple more.
