Local bass tournament for first timer?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Local bass tournament for first timer?

Post by tombiosis »

Hi all,
Have been away from this forum for awhile. I am looking for advice on a good bass tournament close to ottawa that I can try this year...my 13 year old son is super keen on trying competitive fishing...he's a fishing maniac!
Most of our fishing so far has been for musky, and sometimes walleye. This past Christmas I bought him a new bait casting rod, some drops hot rigs and other bass tackle, and we are anxious to join a tournament.
I was hoping for something not too expensive...and not too professional for a first-time experience...any recommendations?

RJ is compiling the details on all of the local circuits and that info will be posted soon.

To my knowledge, all of the local circuits require that you fish a series with the exception of the shootout series. It is 200 bucks to fish a shootout series event this summer

Renegade is putting on a 3 event open for boats with less than 150hp this year. I don't know the dates or bodies of water though. You'll have to look out for them.

The only non club event I'll be doing this year is MS Bassin. It's on Auhust 6th out of pirate cove on the Rideau river. This event is always awesome with 50% of your entry going to the MS Society. There is also a BBQ afterwards with a silent auction. It's always a good time and you get to mingle with the guys afterwards.

Although I've never fished one, the shootout series (I have no idea if it is still called this because of all the recent name changes they have posted on FB... Cory????) are supposedly got as well. Again, you'd have to look up the dates .

And if you just want to come out and meet some guys, I'll probably do a fi fish or two on the Rideau again this year and I think ShawnD plans on doing one on the Ottawa or somewhere else.

It's addicting to say the least. I went from only doing the MS Bassin tournament one year to joining the Ottawa Valley South Bassmasters the next. The camaraderie at the end of the day is just as awesome as the fishing.

Good luck and enjoy it!

If you are going to be fishing with your 13 year old, my advice would be to fish the MSBassin Tournament.
It is (In my opinion) a good starting point for someone that has never fished tournaments.
It is not too far and would give you ample time to prefish the Rideau River near Pirate Cove Marina.
If you never fished bass tournaments before and are not sure on how they work or if you need advice ....
Post your questions here ... Fish-Hawk participants will answer the call.

MS Bassin is limited to 50 teams. Registration is now open and the 50 spots fill out very very quickly.
Here is the link .... in case you are interested.

Awesome!

Matt is a great guy and him and his volunteers put on a great day.

A lot of us participate in this event every year and I think you guys will have a blast.
