Re: STOLEN/MISSING ice hut White Lake
My son in law had his on the shore with a bunch of other shacks before the season closed. Someone pushed his shack onto the ice by a few feet when they moved their shack and never pushed his back where it was. About 10 days after closing he got a call from the MNR that the shack was on the ice. He went down but couldn't move it because by now it was froze in. He had to cut it up with a chain saw and remove it while the officer waited. He got a ticket for 180. and if he hadn't cut it up and removed it the ticket would have been around 500. Life goes on.

Talk about rubbing salt in the wounds... guy just got his hut stolen, if you have nothing of value to add to the conversation, maybe just keep scrolling.

Re: STOLEN/MISSING ice hut White Lake
Only thing I can add is not to jump to conclusions on the theft side. Yes it certainly seems like that is what occured but it could have been a local knowing what the date was for removal. I had an incident a few years back at my old cottage. Someone on here rented the cottage for the weekend and when I went up there I noticed a trailer stuck in the side of the road near my place and assumed someone broke down and had to leave it. I brought it down to my cottage so no one would steal it and a few days later got a message asking me if I was stealing the trailer. After a quick explanation that I was just making sure no one took it on him so I brought it down to my cottage he understood and was ok. Anyway why not talk with some of the locals near by and see what they say. One of my clients is building a home right around there and has been there daily. He may have seen something and if you want I can ask him if he did see anything like that.

Thanks Almontefisher, that would be great. I did talk to a few people there and nobody knows anything... I also walked around the shoreline/cottages to make sure it wasn't pulled up there. If they want to get in touch with me, it has the registration numbers clearly on it, so it wouldn't be a problem finding out who owns it.
Re: STOLEN/MISSING ice hut White Lake
How does someone use the Ice Hut Registration number to find out who owns the hut? Is there a database, or online tool somewhere? Just curious... I googled it and couldn't find anything. Even searched my own number and can't find any info or links. The number I use is old and was always curious if it was still valid to my name etc.
If you're talking about reporting it's wherabouts to the ministry, to follow up with the owner, then the shack should be worth more than the fine for having it out after the deadline.

You can find the owner by calling the Ministry and giving them the registration number. They have the owner on file.... That is how they contact people to tell them they need to remove it/or fine them.
Re: STOLEN/MISSING ice hut White Lake
Your number never expires. If you were to call the MNR asking about a reg number they wont give you the info of the owner but would call them for you themselves depending on the situation.
I'm perplexed by this one tho. Shacks aren't easy to move around though, they had to have planned this pretty good to have a trailer at the ready to make a run for it.
Sad really.

Re: STOLEN/MISSING ice hut White Lake
I agree with you that it was probably stolen... but... perhaps you could post a couple pictures? Just because it was stolen from White Lake doesn't mean it will show up there. It might end up just about anywhere next season.smokercraft wrote:Hi guys/gals,
My ice hut went missing from White Lake.... Thanks
So I suggest:
Post a couple pics now.
Post the pics again at opening next season.
There are no too many guys that build with the coroplast stuff (I considered it and would love to talk to you about that sometime), but as you said, it's going to stand out, so perhaps next year someone in Toronto will say "I saw that shack!"
