First slabs through the ice!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

First slabs through the ice!

Post by CyrusG »

My brother and i hit up another lake yesterday looking for some slabs after having a slow day on the miss, there was 5 inches of clear black ice near shore and after walking a km to our spot the ice was still a solid 4 inches. After drilling a few holes it didn't take long to hook into the first fish, a small pike. Right after i released it i dropped down my jig and got another hit, it wasn't fighting much until it came to the hole and i saw a 3 pound largie, once it knew it was hooked it bolted and gave me a nice fight, i released it forgetting bass was still open, if i knew at that moment i would have took a pic

After setting up the hut we hooked into a few sunnies and my bro got a nice 25 inch pike on his crappie gear, once the sun wen't down the crappies came in but were very finicky, a lot of the time you wouldn't feel the bite but see your rod tip move up, without a light i would of missed way more fish. After catching a few slabs a school of brown bullheads came through, i caught my first 2 ever through the ice! No pics of them but here are the slabs

Be a lot more careful if you plan to go out this week, weather isn't looking too good

Great report!!
This year I spent most of my money on beer, women and fishing...the rest I wasted.

Y'all must be a lot skinnier than me.

(or braver or something....)

Awesome report though! I'm holding out that we don't get too much snow on Wed, but the cold comes.... that way we might make it on the ice for bass at white lake still.
(and man are they hungry bass)

Way to go, odd how Bass season is open in Qc until March 31st but not in Ontario.

It depends where in Ontario some closes early some later, honestly a lot of the rules are quite baffling.
