Lake Placid / Saranac Lake area

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Lake Placid / Saranac Lake area

Post by campnfish »

Hello All,

Looking for a bit of advice as to where I could start looking for trout in the Lake Placid area that isn't the Ausable River or any of its branches (I won't be fly fishing) Don't need specific spots, just like to know if you've had any luck on Pond X or Lake X, or a certain stretch of a creek etc. That way I can use the suggestion as a starting point, and branch out from there.

I heard that Mirror Lake gets rainbows, lake trout and the occasional land-locked salmon. Not sure about actual Lake Placid.

This time of year the Saranac River along Silver Lake Rd. Big water...the Ausable x 2 be careful. There are 2 parking areas. Cast Panther Martins and small spoons. Troll Lake Colby outside Saranac Lake for bows, browns and LLS. Too warm yet for pond brookies. Lake Placid has rainbow, lakers, SMB and a few big pike. Yes Mirror Lake has rainbow.
