Shore fishing in the Greater Ottawa area

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Shore fishing in the Greater Ottawa area

Post by Wencz »

Good morning all!

I've been here on Fish Hawk before but it's been a while.

I live in the Ottawa-area but am without a boat. Most summers I fish with my Dad who usually puts his boat in at Lancaster, and we also try to head to Reserve Faunique Ashuapmushuan (a Quebec SEPAQ wildlife reserve NW of Lac St-Jean, formerly called Chibougamau Provincal Park I think) for one week out of the summer. Unfortunately, he was unable to put the boat in this year and our trip is looking doubtful.

All that to say I'm itching to do some shore fishing and would love to learn about some accessible waters for walleye, perch or trout. I'd be willing to drive up to 1-2 hours, but the closer the better. I'd also be interested in any places where they rent boats with motors at a price that won't sink me. Pardon that.

Thanks in advance for any help, and please forgive me for asking for help before being able to offer any ... but I do look forward to sharing in the future (and on the off chance anybody is going to Ashuap --- great walleye btw, I'd be happy to tell you where).

Gidday lad. Here's a good link for a start. MichaelGa set up a good map of local shore fishing spots. http://fish-hawk.net/viewtopic.php?f=2& ... re+fishing

As for trout lakes, most guys aren't likely to give out those lakes with good shore fishing, specially on a public forum. You could use this http://www.web2.mnr.gov.on.ca/fish_onli ... er_en.html ,and search by species. Find lakes that are closer to roads, depending what you're driving. For instance, a lake like Limestone is accessible by truck and the average Rainbow stocking is close to 3000 a year. But I think a lot of those are now feeding the resident bass that are now more common, so I really don't know how good the shore fishing is there anymore. It used to be popular back in the 70s-80s. Apparently now it's become somewhat of a pigsty back there in spots. A real shame.

Doing a search for shore fishing will yield some reading for you as well. Cheers
