This is my community service post which I added when I first joined last year. It's mostly locations from the Urban Fishing MNR site.
Here is a refresh for this year. If you have any suggestions let me know.

Re: Shore Fishing Locations in the Ottawa Area
Ok,
I'll add.
The Canal Ritz off Fifth is a great spot on the Rideau River for Carp.
There is even a small, stocked pond there and it makes catching them easy for kids.
The Rideau River near the PM's residence is also a fun place to cast. Walleye, carp, bass and musky abound.
The only drawback is when the water level is low it makes fishing tough....you also don't want to be fighting a musky and trying to release it by the guard rail.
Good ol, Victoria Island is really starting to ramp up! Water levels are HIGH and current is FAST right now.
This spot is good for catfish, drum, gar, musky and early season walleye.
Ok enough from me..
Get out and good luck!

Gar are predominantly night feeders and become more voracious at night.
What is the size of the gar at Petrie? (I usually try for them in the upper Ottawa)
What area? The bridges?
Re: Shore Fishing Locations in the Ottawa Area
not very large.. you may get the odd 5-6 footer just because of the long nose but most are 3-4 feet long.. theyre at the bridge and crappie bay and walleye bay at night.. red eyes glaring off your flashligt.. pretty creepy and frickin awesome at the same time.. and yes they are incredibly voracious at night we went through two dozen minnows in two hours one night and caught a ton of em! theyre tricky as heck to hook too

when I say at night though I mean between eleven pm and two am after two am they pretty much start moving away from the bridge.. the sheepshead dont though theyre fun to catch too
