Where to go on Baie Quinte

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Where to go on Baie Quinte

Post by Charles »

Good evening members,

I would love to try out ice fishing for a couple of days on Quinte, I would not mind to get a few ideas of who to call, I would not mind a fishing guide and would need a heated hut cause my son is pretty young ( 7 ). I would like for you guys to take in consideration that I live in Orleans,On and would not want to drive more than 4hrs, I have been searching the Baie and WOW its huge!!

Ho I almost forgot, we want Walleye & big Pirch!! not asking for much.lol..

Regards, Charles

take a look at www.quintefishing.com

lots of info on there

i have been out to huffs(some sketchy ice still here) and closer to hay bay(lots of machines on the ice but still thinner then usual for this time of year)

heres my ice report from huffs

went out to huffs to try to get some eyes today, we were unsuccessful lost a few minnows to what i can only assume were some jumbo perch,no flasher we were on 20-25 FOW

Here's my report: (you can watch it in hd but the ice width is still a little hard to see)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=on_scqVKQd4

There is some safe ice and there is some very unsafe ice we went out from the ramp and followed the main broken in sleigh path that went to the left which seemed fine, we set up and started fishing we also dropped some tip ups hoping to increase our odds

I wanted to move my tip up to cover more area and started my checking out the ice in front of us......it got thin quick....we were fishing on about 6" but 20 ft in front of us towards shore was 4 then as soon 5 ft further you get to a certain point there was 2" maybe less.....someone had already walked over it so don't assume that because someone has already been there that it's safe......I walked over one spot getting closer to land that cracked when i stepped on it too trying to cut across

We talked to a lady that said yesterday a big guy fell through well pulling his hut in less then 50 ft from where we were fishing.....there was one maybe 2 atvs out there but only straight out from the ramp not sure what the ice was like over there but i wouldn't take mine out there yet.....also saw a lot of guys walking out to the far side.....not sure what ice looked like out there either

My advice....check before you walk there is still lots of unsafe ice despite the number of ppl you see out there.....don't go alone.....use paths that many ppl have used, fish in spots others have used one set of foot prints doesn't mean its safe lots of the spots where the ice was unsafe had tracks and sled paths on them they could've easily gone through

we caught a pile of jumbo perch yesterday during the blizzard but no eyes

my buddies and many others have already pulled in several over 5 lbs tho so they are there and they are biting but apparently the bite has been a little slower so far this year

if you going for eyes and perch just dont stop jigging keep 3 minnows on at all times they will come eventually and when they do set the hook and keep your line tight

good luck
