Mrs. Piggy

Post by bl8ant »

Last weekend's first skunking of the year had me thinking I'd pack it in for the season but like most addicts I needed "just one more".

Thinking the shallow nature of last weekend's lake (12 feet at it's deepest) might have contributed to my late fall skunking I decided on a lake with a more "normal" basin.

I wasn't marking many fish so I consulted my notes and went directly to what produced for me last year at the same water temp and almost the same exact day of the year.

First fish of the day was the biggest and what a belly she had!

She came off a 6-8 foot weed flat that extends a good 100 yards off of a point. I resisted the urge to throw slow soft plastics and went by what worked the year before so the 3/8 oz white spinnerbait did the trick.

Went to a rock shoal that holds some nice weeds close to deep water that also worked for me last year and after missing some soft hits set the hook on what I thought was an annoying perch and brought this beauty in. Again on the spinnerbait.

Only got 6 or 7 other largies that day one being a 2.5 er and the rest being 1 lbs clones. 4 pike as well.

Maybe "just one more" next weekend before storing the boat.

Awesome.

After reading this and some earlier reports, I'll be making sure the spinnerbait box doesn't get buried at this time of year when looking for largies.

Nice Largemouth Sean.
Looks like a couple of them ate well by the bellies on them.
That's so much fun to hook largies that size isn't it?
Way to go.
Me thinks I'll keep my boat and gear ready for a while yet....he,he.
