I haven't used live bait in years...for anything. I find the challenge of artificials is the ticket for me. I think a lot of musky guys think this way.

Also, I'm a bit lazy with the work it would take to set up and keep this rig going. Finally, the rules here only allow 1 rod per angler so I couldn't cast for them if I had a live bait rig set up.

If I was to use one though I'd for sure use a quickstrike rig. Killing almost any fish isn't appealing to me....I a kill and eat cow and chicken type of guy.

For clarificaiton, that's a species of redhorse not a white or longnose sucker. The latter two are permitted for bait use, redhorses are not. There are four different species of redhorse in the Rideau and Ottawa Rivers, one of which is a species of concern. If you do catch your own bait, please be sure of the species before using it.

For clarification...we don't use ANY method of livebait when we fish for anything. I'm tempted to fish for walleye with a worm and jig sometimes but I am too much of a musky nut I guess.

You can see (use the gallery pic if needed) it was snagged accidently using a hellhound. As far as trolling v. casting we need to make friends first.

That fish was a pure accidental hookup and quickly released. We didn't even want to touch the slimy thing...yuck! Just joking.

, my post was meant to inform others that might consider using live bait this fall and try to catch their own (or opportunistically use as in a case like this). You've made your stance on live bait crystal clear in this thread and others so that post wasn't directed at you. Sorry if you construed it as such.

Live bait in my opinion, is worms. They are used by my fiance to keep her busy while I spend countless hours chucking everything I have at the "targeted" species which I am fishing for.... Which in reality is anything that will bite my lure.

Just my 2 cents....

Nice colourful Muskie and pretty FAT for its length.
I haven't seen a redhorse snag-hooked like that ever....weird accidental hook up.
I once hooked a really nice walleye on a topwater buzzbait under a bridge on Chemung Lake. That would be my weirdest hook up.
