Upper Rideau water levels

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Upper Rideau water levels

Post by kjdfish »

Gang,

The weather in DC has been unbearable, we received record snows in late winter and now the heat.
My concern is water levels in the Rideau waterway.
Our trip up is Set 18th-25th.
Any idea when drawn down will begin this Fall.
Also would be nice to know how fishing was this Spring and Summer on Upper. We stay at URR, outside Westport. Can't match it with places I seen on web or visited in person.

Thanks, love reading the threads you guys/gals post. Some are really funny, but more are really informative. Made some great penpals.....

Upper Rideau

Post by Joey Rat »

I fish mostly Big and Lower Rideau but I have also fished Newboro which is part of the Rideau system. Water levels have been low but only an issue because that combined with a very warm summer and high water temps, fish are harder to find. Hopefully by September the waters will cool and fish will return to their usual haunts and start eating for winter.

I'm in a tourney on Newboro on sunday and I'll try to remember to follow-up with results.
I'm just another beer drinker with a fishing problem!

water levels on the Rideau

Post by Big Jim »

Dude, I am there tomorrow for the day...look back here later tomorrow or Saturday morning and I'll post for you.

As of the long weekend two weeks back the Lower Rideau was still really good and perhaps even a bit high for August first ...the dock at Beveridge Locks is concrete and doesn't lie about levels.

It will drop a good bit in the early fall as part of the annual draw down by the canal people.

Check tomorrow.

Almost guarantee the water level is going up a couple inches at the break of day Friday the 13th for obvious reasons, but it will drop again later in the day when a certain someone comes off the water.

BIG RIDEAU LEVEL

Post by Big Jim »

KJD, the water is probably a bit above normal...NO it IS above normal for this time of the year.
Last few years it has been/stayed higher in the Rideau all year and this one is no exception.

Checked the water line on the cement dock where I launch and it shows a total drop of about 12 maybe?? 14 inches this year so far. I remember guiding out of there years ago and you sometimes had a hard time getting onto the dock from the boat because the water was so low...this year and as mentioned for the last few it has simply been step in or out due to the water being higher.

Also caught some nice fish from cover that used to be high and dry by mid August but still had plenty of water for bass to be there and be happy to go back there after we briefly borrowed them. 8)

Enjoy now
