fishing the ottawa near constance bay... help.

Post by ptrxml59 »

Hi, my family has rented a cottage in constance bay and I've been fishing in and around that general area with modest to completely lacking success. with the river so insanely low this year I feel that conventional advice about fishing this river doesn't necessarily apply right now. I'm a novice angler and alternate between fishing for walleye, smallmouth and northerns. Anyone familiar with this area and have any suggestions of what i should be doing for any or all of these fish. also, is anyone familiar with the long (roughly 2km) weedy shoreline in quebec opposite the bay? it looks promising, is it?

FYI i'm in a 14 ft. aluminum wht a 9.9 and an eagle kuda fishfinder.

Try the creek opening just below the bay. Other then that I don't know the area but it shouldn't be to hard to figure out its the ottawa river (full of fish). Also in case your wondering why the lack of response, it probably has something to do with you joining the site to simply asking a question about spots your first or second post. People generally frown upon people that do that. Also try doing a search on this site for constance bay and I'm sure you'll find more info. Good luck and hopefully we hear from you again before next summer.
Cheers

All bets are off with the water level this year BUT...

I nailed some nice pike over the years in and around the island north, north west of Buckam's Bay called Mohr Island. There was a nice channel that separates two parts of the island that was a veritable bass pit for me. The north west corner of the island had a nice shoal with a drop off that has held some nice pike for me just in or just outside the current.

I would bet the farm that there are Gar Musky around there too.

Always windy around that stretch of river... when every other body of water is glass, you can be certain there will be gale force winds there!! Weird. Be careful in the 14 tinny! Lots of shoreline to hit on the QC side... but don't neglect the docks on the ON side for nice bass!

If you drift just outside the bay with a worm harness and bottom bouncer or heavy jig you should pick up some walleye and lots of channel cats. Also, fish in and around the small islands in the bay. These areas produce bass, walleye, and pike. Lots of shallow spots in the bay, so be careful while you drive.

Thats awesome dude, i was just letting you know. I'd still consider myself new. Anyways, welcome again and best of luck with the fishing. I also forgot about the islands across from the Provincial park....I landed a crap load of pike there one day trolling around the island. But be careful there are alot of prop busting rocks around there as well, like just under the power lines.
Cheers
