I was at Bits and Baits 5th Anniversary BBQ this morning with my son and asked a group of guys there if they knew of a kids fishing derby in the near future. They said that there is one tomorrow, Sunday July 11, at the east side of Dows Lake near Bronson. I can't find anything about it on line. Does somebody have any details about this derby?
Thanks,
Bill

It will be held on July 11th from 9:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Ottawa Chapter usually supplies about six volunteers to support the event. Each kid is supplied with a rod and reel combo, a cup of worms, a bobber and a hook. Volunteers work with the kids to show them how to use their tackle, put worms on a hook, take fish off the hook and release them, etc. Hot dogs and beverages (usually water) are provided free to the kids and volunteers. It is a great event and the kids really enjoy it and appreciate the help they receive from the volunteers. The volunteers always seem to enjoy the event too. Some of the kids are under-privileged city kids who have never fished before, or only get to fish once a year at the Dow's lake event, so having their own rod and reel, and getting to go fishing, is a big deal for them.
