Fiesty Calabogie Walleye

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Thanks everybody! And I agree with the above comments above, almost every fish over 19.7 are being kept.. Which is making it harder, and harder to catch the larger ones! Hopefully soon all these little eyes' will grow and everybody can enjoy catching some larger fish!

Thanks again, and look forward to posting many more outings to come!

Happy fishing everybody,

Paul

I go to calabogie lake every year since 1971. Just got back. Walleye same size for last 6 years (14-15 inches) Anyone know why?

I always like seeing a lot of smaller walleyes, it tells me that at least they are reproducing. They'll be bigger in a few years and like Sheldon said MNR will probably change the rules to try to sustain that walleye population.

Good first report by the way!!!

I know this is an old thread resurrected but.....

I have recently taken up residence on one of these lakes with this size limit and this is 100% the truth. Locals freak out when I throw 'keepers' back and eat smaller bass instead of 22" walleye. But there seems to be serious issues IMO with the slot size. The lake has huge trophy potential (just look at the bass) yet out of the 65 'keepers' in my boat last year, 3 of them were over 23". This makes no sense in my mind.

What is the main forage in there? Walleye need bigger and more plentiful food to grow big.

Remember, keeping larger walleye over the slot size is killing the best spawners,i don't know if MNR is doing the right thing. That's my 2 cents.
