Fishing Report -- May 30

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Fishing Report -- May 30

Post by lapointeric »

Went north (apx. 3hrs from Ottawa), for the annual trip with the old man and some friends. Had a great weekend, caught 6 walleye and 2 pike between 9 guys (I boated 3).

Caught most of the Walleye in 4-10 fow. The wind was pushing the current in towards a bay, and we were just on the outside of it.

First fish, when I figured out the pattern:

What a great weekend. Last year we went to the same lake, and caught squat. Just shows what a little trial and error + patience can do.

I should mention, I put some of them back in the water for another day. After a day of fishing—without a single bite—I made a promise to the fish God's...

Unless you are breaking the law... NEVER feel guilty about eating a fish!

Nice catches BTW!

Impossible for me not to feel guilty. Should have heard my dad when I told him I was putting my first one back. Imagine a very thick French accent: "no G D way you're putting dat back!".

But man was that 2.5 lb Walleye delicious. The other guys caught a few pike, so they put it in some tin foil and left it on the bbq for waaay too long, it was bone dry. My dad and I straightened them out with some beautiful walleye filets, dusted them with a little bit of flour, pan fried with butter for like 7 minutes.

They didn't know fish could be that good :)

Last year you caught squat??? What if you were squat fising and caught walleye. Would that be a good ting or bad thing.

I can hear the conversation now.

Wha'd ya catch

Squat, but that's ok, we were fishin for em.

Threw em back though, we practice squat catch and release.

I never target Squat, they're not a very good eating fish. Too many bones.
