Dangers of the ice, we lost one tonight

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Dangers of the ice, we lost one tonight

Post by Oziles »

We lost one of ours tonight. A regular ice fisherman here, Jocelyn Belanger, also known as PeeWee, went through the ice trying to pull out someone else's ice hut out. PeeWee was an experienced winter person, had tons of experienced sledding over frozen surfaces, clearing skidoo trails and has been ice fishing all his life. An unfortunate set of circumstances tonight resulted in PeeWee being dragged under when his truck went through the ice. 5 feet of water. He was not even in it. Go figure.

NEVER assume it is safe. ALWAYS wear proper gear. ALWAYS check to make sure. ALWAYS be with someone in unfamiliar situations. NEVER take chances. The results could be what we have tonight, a good friend to many, always willing to help, no longer with us.

All of our thoughts are with Serge, his brother, and his friends who were with him when this tragedy occurred, as well has those who got to know him over the years. Our sincerest sympathies.

Heard it on the radio driving home tonight.

Horrible, horrible news.

I suppose that false sense of security that I often feel when I am on ice that is over shallow water IS just that; False.

RIP.

My heart felt condolences go out to his family, friends and all who knew him.

This Winter has been a weird one. Peewee probably knew this water like the back of his hand and an accident happened.

Please be careful even if you think you know the waters

My toughts go out to his family.
When hell freezes over, I'll be there icefishing!!!

If you can't stand behind our troops,
Please feel free to stand in front of them!!!

Experience is that marvellous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again

Very heart wrenching, our deepest sympathy to the family of Peewee.

Fisherman's Prayer

God grant that I may live to fish,
until my dying day,
And when it comes to my last cast,
I then most humbly pray,
When in the Lord's safe landing net,
I'm peacefully asleep,
That in his mercy I be judged,
As big enough to keep.
