BOQ Bonanza
BOQ Bonanza
Ventured down to the BOQ yesterday for what might be the last ice fish. Left home at 3:30 in the dark and flurries with coffee in hand. Had an uneventful trip there, pondering to myself where to fish on that vast expanse of thinning ice. Decided on Long Reach since I was there last week and saw Mangler catch fish, (I got skunked!) and I knew the ice was still solid.
Pulled into the Dew Drop Inn at 6:10 for minnows to discover that it's been a slow bite since the weather changed this week. Wasn't about to let that stop me and walked out a klick to the pressure ridge. Got there and drilled my holes only to discover that my minnows were back in the car. I feel naked without minnows, so back I trudged to get them.
Who do I meet on the way onto the ice but "The Russians". You'll have to check on the Quinte forum to find out what they're all about. Espionage!!!They stuck to me like best friends and fished WAY too close.
Wasn't until 9:10 that I struck a fish. Spotted few, and the bite was awful slow. I knew it was big, but was hoping that it wasn't a nasty sheephead, again. To my delight it was a walleye of record breaking proportions, and it was on the ice. Hay!! The Russians were closer now!!
The only thing they were good for was taking a picture of me and my PB fish. THen back down the hole for her.
Having marked few fish, I packed up and left. Told them there were 0 fish left.
Drove to Belleville and set up offshore in 15' of water. Got action at 12:30 and landed this beauty.
11 pounds 5 ounces. The first one was bigger!
I was joined by other fishermen in the late afternoon for the evening bite, and we were not disappointed. Almost everyone caught fish, some two or three. I landed a nice 4 pound male, a great eater, which was what I wanted in the first place! Met some nice guys on the ice there and enjoyed chatting with them.
Left for home after dark hoping we would beat those pesky Russians!

Almost a repeat of last night's whipping.
Congrat's on your medal winning performance. Those are some beauties. Glad you were successful and got one for the table, too.

Judging by the size of that fish compared to the auger, looks like you had to squeeze that one out of the hole. Nice work! Great lookin' fish!Maple wrote:

thats very possible..even in one day...with perchFishing 24/7 wrote:LOL some guys are saying they had a 200 fish day within 2 days of fishing.
is this possible ?!
seriously though..there is a school of dinks in the area..they are targeting them ..they are all very small and worthless to catch..I don't even consider them walleye..they aren't even 10' inches long(some ovbiously bigger)..but no fun in that(10'perch here fight better then our 10' eyes)..people come to the bay of quinte for trophies not little dinks..if they had just moved around more in the same area they probably would've come across a school of bigger fish...but they enjoyed there trip by the looks of it and thats all that matters..just my .02 cents.
