Orcas eating catch

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

That captain should be gunning the boat around and overtop of the whales like they do to the sharks in that Tarpon Tour on WFN!

Reminds me of dad having a seal steal a sockeye off his line right at the boat in BC when we were out there ~10yrs ago!

Holy crap! I'd hate to fall out of the boat netting a fish, a little leery even bending over the edge to net one.

Gunning the boat around and overtop of the whales would likely result in injured orcas. It's illegal to harm an orca, never mind the total lack of ethics involved. (The same goes for doing it to sharks - pretty pathetic behaviour from Tarpon Tour people.)

How stupid would a captain have to be do do what you suggested with so many witnesses? He's be out of business and lose a fortune in fines in very short order.

Also, one of those orcas was bigger than the boat and could probably capsize it to retrieve an even larger and slower swimming meal than a big salmon.
Time's fun when you're having flies.

Orcas stealing fish

Wow that is pretty cool. I lost about a 30 lb salmon to a seal while fishing the Straits of Georgia near Parksville a few years ago. The seal took the fish just as the captain was about to net it.

I think I could live with losing a fish to an Orca just to see them that close. I wonder if it knew not to take the whole fish because of the hook?
