New Panfish Limits in FMZ 18...

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

New Panfish Limits in FMZ 18...

Post by RJ »

Some may remember this issue awhile back......nice to see these put in place......

Possession limit is now 300.....with only 30 of those being over 7 inches....so basically if you want to keep 30 fish for the table you'll never need be concerned about measuring fish.....

Ya just have to be concerned about having to clean that darn many fish! I mean really, who other than tourists need to be in posession of 300 fish and 600 filets of sunnies.

Time to trade in the bucket for a couple of garbage cans.....and no distracting the CO's while they're trying to do a body count....poor fellas.

I was just at a seminar at Radio World in TO and there was a MNR Biologist there explaining a few things. Area 17 is now open for ice as well and he was explaining the reason for only 30 over 7 in, he said if they cull the smaller ones(meaning the other 270) they don’t eat as many walleye young and also it had to do with genetics where the bigger ones spawn and the new hatches will grow to be bigger. He said there was allot more to it but in the long run, big fish make big fish and small fish make small fish.

Hey, RJ...

You might be interested to learn this amendment to the reg's made it into our (sports section) of the Syracuse newspaper this past week.

I was happy about this, too, RJ, but then that's no surprise. Still wish it were stricter, but it's a step in the right direction.
