Truck info.

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

My advice would be a 4x4 with an extended cab vice a crew cab.

Reason being is that you lose box length when you go to a crew. Makes a difference to me when I am hauling ATV's.

I drive a 2009 Ford FX4....Love it!

Here is some info on the Tacos rust problems.
Basically this problem happened between 1995 and 2000 where Tacos were using pre-used steel for their frames. Toyota has extended rust warrenties for 15years.
here is some info for you:

I too was looking at this vehicle, in a 4x4 crew version, but these reports scared the B-jesis out of me. I purchased a very similar truck, with a full ladder frame 4.0 Litre with 265 horses under the hood, for much less than the price they wanted for the Taco. My suggestion would be a Nissan Frontier.

How does this sound:

4WD

5000lb towing

Car-like fuel economy

Fit a full-size ATV in the bed, and a 3hp jiffy auger in the trunk UNDERNEATH the bed...

Built in Canada

Takes a 4 foot sheet of plywood flat in the bed.

More room in the cab then most full-size quad cabs (Me and my 4 Ice fishing buddies comfortably)

Sound good?

Tacoma? Think Honda Ridgeline man.

Have yet to find something it can't do.

I too would recommend the Ridgeline :)

it drives/handles/tows/hauls great. and in the past two years and 80,000km I have had mine, have had zero probs. (I got it used with 40k on it already)

as for the gas mileage...it is OK....for a truck. i average around 19 MPG in the city.

I never see great prices on used ones though.

one thing i've never understood about pickup trucks.

when we all have seven foot rods and longer (great lakes trollers have rods upwards of 11') where do you put your rods?

i bought a full sized Yukon 4x4.

I can keep all my rods "inside" without them getting beat around the bed of a truck.

Do the pickup owners simply keep the rods in your boat while towing?

In the rod lockers in my boat.

Thanks for all of the info and opinions guys. Two of my concerns are the cost to operate and purchase. Specifically I am concerned about mileage. I log a fair bit of kms in a year and the Taco gets pretty good mileage for a truck. I read consumer reports a lot and the Ridgeline scores extremely high as does the Frontier.

You guys have convinced me that 4X4 is the way to go.

I think I will be test driving a couple of them in the new year.

Why not get the real thing, sit 4 man with more room then any other truck out there, a full sheet of plywood 4 x 8 enclosed and out of the element. that would be the Avalanche, hey it also has 320 HP and good on gas. I get close to 900K highway for 110 l or 500 towing. Now thats the real truck that honda tried to copy LOL
Catch and release them all
