Anyone else find it tough fishing today?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Anyone else find it tough fishing today?

Post by alctel »

Had the day off work, haven't caught anything the last 3 times I have been fishing so decided to try to catch something to eat tonight (ideally a 1lb bass) so started off at all my usual spots on the Rideau River at about 2ish, 3 hours later in desperation after ZERO bites I biked down to Rideau Falls where I hear its great fishing - after 2 more hours and no bites I left fishless!

I tried cranks, spinners, worms, jigs... anyone else get skunked? Was it the colder air?

Yesterday I was getting hits on my surface frog, at least until one got hooked and ran off with the frog, snapping the 50lb braid! (it musta had some wear on it I didn't notice). After that I couldn't get any hits on worm, jigged crayfish or spinners

Today no bites anywhere full stop for the whole day though! :s

The bite was better before 10am....top water was a no go here so we targeted the 6-9 FOW wich was more productive. We had many bass many 3 pounders but nothing above that.

I fly-fished on the Rideau R (check the fly forum for report) but in short, the fishing was very good. Thursday was great, Friday was above average... However, fly fishing means loads of small fish... so it's not the same... but the fish were active on the surface... small poppers.

Nope, awesome day for us. A lot of 2-3lbs in the thickest of slop. Managed to get a 4.5lbs largie and another smaller 4 pounder on the dot. They missed the frogs a bunch of times as well, but we got them with jigs. Cant complain for a 2hour fish!

Made it out last night from 9pm-10:30pm - on a shallow bay with weeds on bottom. 2 small LM and 3 (also small) SM
Heddon Torpedo topwater - slo-o-o-w retrieve. A few blow-ups that didn't connect...
Bite was nothing spectacular.
