This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

The sport of fishing....and Internet Fishing Websites

Post by Bobber »

There are a great many anglers out there in the world, and this proven even more in the past years as we see the proof of Internet participation on Fishing sites and Message Boards explode.

Some believe that Fishing Websites which provide information, teach others the sport, and provide a means to meet people and make new friends to be a positive factor in Angling.

Others believe that Internet Fishing Websites are contributing negatively to the sport of Angling, in that people can easily read posts from others and find out where to go fishing, secret spots are given up, and the "real" personalities of people are made apparent, either on purpose or by accident.

How do you feel about Internet websites, such as Fish-Hawk for example?

Please feel free to elaborate on your opinion.

I for one have pointed many people to this site as I think it is a great place to learn about the area and the sport, but in almost all cases the fellas didn't become active members after reading the nonsense that goes on.

IMO this site has been a great way to meet other fishermen/women. I for one have met at least 50 fine people who enjoy my favorite past time in about 1 year and have visited lakes that I may not have otherwise.

The flip side is because there is so much negativity and so many trigger happy A-H's any newbie’s are reluctant to share my enthusiasm about the site or simply wish not to contribute and remain the dreaded, evil lurker beings as referred to so often here. As for the sport anyone thinking of getting into it would also be turned off right away.

Those of us that really don't care about the opinions of others realize that we are doing something we love to do and easily just let the crap go.

Don’t sweat the small stuff and remember that "Opinions are like A-Hs...Everybody has one".

As good as the sites are for information sharing and daydreaming for those of us locked to our desks for 40hrs/week...I really do not think that they truely promote the positives of the sport.

Cheers,
Rich

I think that internet fishing sites are great for learning about fishing. I've gone to plenty, and have learned quite a bit from them, especially in the last 3 or so years when I got more serious about fishing.

More specifically, I think this site is very good. In fact, it's the only site i go to on a frequent basis. I've received great advice about where to fish on my massive cottage lake from Big Jim and Hawgwild (thanks!), bought some items from reputable people, and learned what fish are where on the lake using the Map project on the site. (which has been very, very helpful).

And if it's going to be constructive, there is going to be some difference of opinion. When that happens, I always learn a thing or two from a differing opinion, and that's good in my books. Some of the dialogue is pretty entertaining too.

Love all the reports too. For me, it's all positive.
