FISHING ON THE OTTAWA RIVER

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Yes you can fish from the Quebec side with an Ontario Sportsfishing Licencse. (Note: You cannot fish on the Quebec side with Conservation License)

You can essentially fish anywhere in Zone 25.
Description of zone 25
Given the complexity of Zone 25, a description of its boundaries follows. It includes the rivière Des Outaouais and lac Témiscamingue within the following boundaries: starting at the point at which the Québec-Ontario borders meet and the upstream side of the Carillon dam on the rivière Des Outaouais; thence to the north, following the upstream side of this dam and its extension to the northern limit of the Highway 344 right-of-way; thence to the west to the Highway 148 right-of-way; thence to the west to the left bank of the rivière des Outaouais at Waltham Station; thence, following this left bank and the east bank of lac Témiscamingue to its extreme northern limit; thence to the west bank of the lake; thence southwest to the Québec-Ontario border and, thence, following this border to the starting point.
If you're on the Quebec side you must follow the Quebec regulations, and if you are keeping bringing any fish back to Ontario, your catch/possesion limits must be valid under both sets of regulations.

If you don't get out of your boat you can fish either side of the river with a license from either side of the river. Applies to all boundary waters, including the St. Lawrence. Just went through this, my cousin lives in Quebec.

Hope this helps

You don't have to be in a boat to fish the boundary waters. We have inquired with the Quebec MRFN w.r.t. wading in from the Quebec side to fish the Ottawa R. We have been assured that it is legal with an Ontario sportsfishing licence.

Bradford,

Here is the quote from the Quebec Regs.

Holders of an Ontario sportfishing licence are treated the same as holders of a Québec sportfishing licence for the purposes of sportfishing in Zone 25 and in lakes Clarice, Labyrinthe and Raven ( Zone 13 ) as well as in that part of lake Saint-François ( Zone 8 ) west of a line drawn from Beaudette point on the northern shore to Saint-Louis point on the southern shore. The same applies to holders of a New Brunswick sportfishing licence for the purpose of angling in the Patapédia (Zone 2) and Ristigouche (Zones 1 and 2) salmon rivers. Fish caught in these waters and kept are considered caught in Québec and must be included in the daily fishing quota and possession limits.
It seems like an insignifant detail but if you look closely at the Ontario regs the two licences available are:
- Sports Fishing License
- Conservation Fishing License

if it was a "conservation sports fishing license" I think you would have an argument to stand on, but as it is I would not risk it unless you have it in writing from the Quebec MFRN.

kind of a grey area there ? I would think a person with a conservation licence would be more welcome,he's taking less fish and some species none at all, I wouldnt think you would be fined.agree with bill tho dont go on qweerbec shore without their licence and with fish ? 4 get that!

I shore fished Ottawa river (Quebec side) a lot. Couple of times I had a chat with MNR officers. At the time I had a conservation Ontario licence and officers were aware of the fact, however none of them was mentioning anything to me. I donno if it had smth to do with the fact that I usually dont keep a fish.
