White Lake vacation saver

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

White Lake vacation saver

Post by 14fishing »

If you read my last post, we had a rough time at White Lake last week.
Luckily, on Friday afternoon, all that changed. My son was depressed that vacation was ending, so he decided to make a few last casts for perch off the dock. He was using an UL rod, 4 lb test, size 10 hook and a small piece of crawler, when he hooked, landed and released a 4 lb 7 oz LM. By far, his PB. Luckily, my wife was taking video and has the whole thing on tape.
After 6 days of bad luck, we needed this.

I tried to attach the pic, but it didn't work. You can see it in the kids section of the gallery.

hey - great vacation saver for your kids.... I was particularly enthralled by the comment on the bait used - sometimes simpler is better and the expensive gear does not appeal to the fish like the tried and true old fashioned method - ie: worm on hook! Better luch with the vacation next year.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck...I believe we've all had vacations like that.

Nice to hear you son caught a hawg LMB, that will give him some good memories for the trip.

14fishing,

well, too bad about the less than stellar vacation week, but hooray for your son landing a very nice bass on the way out. Good way to end the trip, anyway.

Here's the pic:

Nice pic for him to show his friends at school in the fall.

Wolfe - thanks for posting the pic.

We stayed at Bayview. The water is only 2 -3 ft deep, where he caught it, but it has a lot of matted grass on the bottom.

What's up with White Lake this year? Based on the posts, not much going on with bigger fish. Also, the winning weight from the tournament on the first day of the season was low compared to last year.
