Shimano Rod Warranty
Shimano Rod Warranty
Hey Everyone,
I have a 7ft MH Shimano Crucial (new last year) and the tip just recently snaped off it. I took it to R2R plus to see if i could get it repaired as I would like to use it this coming weekend and if I were to send it to shimano I wouldent have it back for a few weeks. By the time I dropped the rod off and got home I thought to myself how the rod is already a super stiff rod as it is and by them just putting a tip on it would take away most of its action. So I called and left a messae to them telling them not to work on it because I think the rod wont work the same, it will be like holding a 7ft piece of bamboo.
My question is, is there anywhere around ottawa where I can take the rod and they will exchage it for me? I was reading somewhere (i think) how some places will exchange it for you and they will send the rod off to shimano?
Any help would be appriciated
Thanks
Anthony

Depends who you bought it from originally. If you went to LeBaron, you have almost no choice but to repair elsewhere or send it away. If you purchased it from a smaller shop (cough *a vendor on F-H* cough), then they would likely exchange it over the counter if it is indeed a warrantyable repair. Often, snapped-tips are not warrantyable since they almost always are caused by abuse (whether intentional or not).
A properly repaired tip should be almost indistinguishable in look and feel from a new rod.

Rods
I couldnt find a shop to swap my st croix that I broke last year. So I bit he bullet and shipped it away with little hope. $40 and 3 weeks later, I have a shiny new Avid ready to go for the rest of the summer.
I figure it was a write-off anyway so what did I have to lose...
I'd give Bamboozler's guy a try if I were you.

I used Canada Post 1-3 day shipping...it cost about $20 (including insurance). The 3 - 5 day was about $18. It was a 2 piece I sent back, but asked for a 1 piece in return because the top piece kept coming off. I wasn't expecting a 1 piece, but lo and behold.
My conversation with Bud was all of about 15 seconds. He said send it back, no worries.
Awesome company!

always ask the shop your buying the rod from if they'll do an over the counter exchange program...
most of my local shops ALL do.
maybe its because 1 or 2 started, then the rest were forced to follow suit.
i'm not sure, but i've broken a number of compre rods (fishing rougher weather conditions) and all have been replaced over the counter, IF the rod is available.
that goes for Compre/Clarus/Crucial/Wild River Series and Avid. Not any Loomis product though.
