Gulp! Shiners

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Never fished em but have definitely thrown MANY live minnows off a jig head on cast.
initially pricy yes. You save over the long run with multiple cacthes per piece, and with no lost bait on casts. Do some calculations.. way cheaper than real minnows..... (in the long run)

Hopefully I`ll be proved wrong!
Bring me and my bucket of gulp and I'll prove you wrong.
I wish someone would give me that kind of offer, and will risk hijacking this thread to solict such and offer.

My cottage is in the Eganville area, but will travel with boat for an opportunity to learn Gulp presentation skills. I will also bring 110% we are going to catch some fish attitude.

1 live minnow = 1 fish

1 Gulp Alive Shiner= multiple fish. They are tough ,they last.

Easy Math .

I also outfished live minnows 4:1 trolling with spinner rigs.

And outfished 3:1 live worms for catfish.

I never leave home without them and that was just Regular Gulp not the Alive stuff.

Shiner on a jig like you would a dead minnow in the mouth and out the the middle of the back. On a spinner rig I used Gulp Nightcrawlers.

I will admit that Gulp is the most overmarketed product to hit the fishing industry in my memory....

But it does work....I love to stick it to products that claim things and don't deliver....this isn't one of them....when fishing smallies, crappies or recently lakers....they have been my plastic of choice...

I still hate the tubs...

Me too I hate the tubs. they seem so flimsy. And that liquid would sure raise a stink in +30deg weather spilled on a carpet.

I might pick up a tub then, and move a few to small mason jars for portability.. just rig on a jig head eh? hmm... What action do you give them? Do you jig as if there was a plastic on there?

You asked, he answered. Enough said, I am not sure why you have to take issue with his answer and get combative and childish about it. Re-read the three pages of replies about the topic at hand (other than the ones you hijacked) pretty much everybody is very happy (myself included) with the performance of this stuff, why argue about it if you never tried?

Don't sass me buddy.

If you had the choice of taking 20 Gulp shiners or 20 live shiners out for a 1 day trip... what would you take buddy? Be honest now buddy...
Don't "buddy" me buddy..... I would take gulp hands down......... And yes it's an honest answer. I took gulp over live bait on my nrthern ontario flyin trip two weeks ago...and not to brag but yes I did outfish people using live bait..... The fishing was extrememely tough, but the gulp still outfished live bait........

anyway......you seem to have the attitude of $h*t disturber.........so peace out.. "buddy" I love my gulp.........anyone I fish with knows that.......and are happier now that I don't leave work dirt in their boats.
Well, based in that comment... you seem to have the attitude of a plain old $h*t head.

Well Sally, of course you would take Gulp on a northern getaway... buddy, I mean Sally, its still hard to believe that you would rather take the artificials of the live... but that is why I asked.

I don't consider this a hijack as we're still on topic, but have 2 questions:

1. When you open a pkg of GULP baits, some of the tails are very often bent or crimped. I wondered if this straightens out in the water after a few casts, and wonder if not, will it ruin the action / performance. I usually leave those bent ones in the pkg. Anyone w/ experience on this?

2. Do GULP store well once used? Do you repackage them? Lord knows what a hot summer day will do to one left out on a hook; you've got to chisel them off.

After reading this, I'm going to open some of those GULP packs we've got and give them a go.

I use the containers rather than the packages Margie so i don;t know about the bent ones...although they are VERY soft, i would think that it wouldn't affect the action much, if at all.

they definitely store well as long as you remember to take them off the hook and put them back in the container...if you forget, you'll need a sharp knife to get it off the hook :)

I left a large container of chartreuse grubs in the boat over the winter...opened it up in the spring and they were fine :) even the container was ok :)

Cheers

Andy

Yeah I guess calling a guy Sally twice is on topic.

Ran into the same issue with "bent" bait, but went ahead and threw it into some weeds, I picked up a nice SMB first cast, so he didn't mind, but they eventually work themselves out in my experience.

there's a trick to the tubs RJ....first DON'T peel the sealed inside cover off. use a knife and cut a circle smaller than the opening in the tub. This solves 2 issues. first one is if you peel the inside lid off, its much harder to get a tight seal when you twist the top back on. secondly, if you cut a hole smaller than the opening, anytime it sloshes around it won't slosh OUT of the container. Works well :)

Like anything else, I guess being slightly bent never hurt anyone -- including GULP bait . Thanks for the info guys.
