Minimum fish size missing from regulations?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Minimum fish size missing from regulations?

Post by JasonT »

how come the regulations give a maximum size for fish, ex: walleye max 18.1 inch but they don't give minimum sizes?

:?:

I'm referring to the official MNR regulations for Zone 18 - (PDF)
http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/MNR_E001337.pdf

Full regulation list is here:
http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/Le ... 63615.html

I searched it all and found references to size limits but no actual size limit indications...

I am probably wrong since this is way outside my area of knowledge, but I suspect it has to do with there being many more smaller fish than larger fish. That and by removing smaller fish it leaves more food for the larger fish to get even larger. Reduce the competition so to speak.

It's simple there is no minimum size limit. Only one of your retained fish can be greater than 46 cm (18.1") the rest have to be smaller than this limit.

There are exceptions in the regs on 'some' lakes in zone 18.

I invite you all to read them.

Basically yes.
As Slop mentioned Zone 18 like all zones has some exceptions. If not mentioned in the exceptions than the general Zone limits apply.
