Down the hole.......

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Down the hole.......

Post by CityIt »

So I was out fishing on Constance lake today and the pike were on!! Caght 6 withing in an hour and a half....ranging from 2lbs up to 4+....and one that I almost had...but he STOLE my rod...I had it in my fingertips with my arm down the hole up to my elbow in water....the drag was screaming but I was just that extra second too long to get to it.......

If anyone happens to pull up a rod from the depths on the lake, it was a Panfish Popper..Frabill (i Believe)..Blue wraps around the eyelets...and it might possibly have the lure attached....Rattling Forage Minnow...Chartreuse glow.....shoot me a message!!!!

Thanks!!

Don't think your rods are safe in packed snow!!!!!!!

Most of my sacrifices to the fishing Gods happen in the summer in the form of snagged Rapellas on the troll... but I feel your pain; lost fish - lost tackle!

Happy to hear you had a mostly good day on the bay though!

If a cigarette butt takes 25 years to decompose, how long does a fishing rod?

Is this considered littering ?

Not blaming you, just making a thought provoking statement.

That sucks! I almost lost my first rod this year, twice in the same day fishing for splake. One line was hit so hard the rod popped out of the holder. Missed that fish...I also had another just shaking on the verge of getting pulled out of the the rod holder on my FL-20  Got that fish.... :D

I better make that a third rod...Katch Moore had a fish pop his rod out of the holder too  Man was that ever a good day :D

Maybe some of the good karma around here will bring back your combo after ice-out :D

Loosing an ice rod through the hole is a great source of mirth for my wife. That is until she sees me buying this years model to replace it. ;)

I know where SkubaSteve is coming from. A few years ago while scuba diving, came across a sunken tree. Picked up 22 gang trolls in 15 minutes. Most were rusted out but got at least 5 that were usable.

We were fishing for Lake trout last year when the same thing happened. A lake trout pulled the rod out of the holder and down the hole before anyone could grab it. As we were all scratching our heads and cursing, it swam around two of our other rods and ALMOST dragged them down the hole too (we figure the line it was dragging caught on the other lines we had out). We were on our toes at this point and managed to save those rods. We tried reeling the fish / rod / line, etc using the other rods, but one came untangled from the mess and the line snapped on the other one. Since then we always turn the drag completely off if we put our rod down even for a second.

A group of locals were fishing near us. They thought the whole thing was pretty funny. I guess they told everyone they knew because the next time we were at that lake, another local began telling us this story, not realizing it was us.

And that is how we almost lost 3 rods to one fish. True story.

Happened to me last winter but, after finish my swearing about losing my favorite rod I look on my underwater cam and there was my reel in plain view. So I just dropped down a jigging spoon with my other rod and retrieved my lost pole. So in total it was lost for less than 5 minutes.
When hell freezes over, I'll be there icefishing!!!

If you can't stand behind our troops,
Please feel free to stand in front of them!!!

Haven't lost a rod yet....
sunglasses, rod holders, spuds, ice scoops...but no rods.

The funniest was open water in the canoe at Baldy Lake back in Sask. Dad caught a 2lb pike and once in the canoe he reached over and set his rod down to take the hook out - all was fine except that he set his rod down in the water, which dragged the fish out of his hand and it went over too.

He didn't seem to think it was as funny as I did.

We managed to jig that one off the bottom (we were only in 8' and could see the silver finish on his reel). The fish shook off in all the comotion.
There are few problems in life which can not be solved with a well-placed, high-explosive projectile.
