Réservoir Baskatong at Windigo/UPDATE

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

You'll catch fish don't worry. The place you are fishing is as good as any place on that reservoir.

Baskatong is not "fished out", but it has been fished heavily! In the past years, it was a Walleye "heaven". You could go there and catch 100's of eatable size Walleye in a weekend. But this was 20-30 years ago.

Now you have to go further up north and off the beaten trail to find Walleye fishing heavens. Cabonga Reservoir has good Walleye fishing but is not what it used to be. It's a great place to fish still though.

Most of the places with great Walleye fishing are Fly-In lakes and are not reachable by maintained roads. My father just drove into a fly in lake and it took him 8 hours or something on the logging roads. He did catch about 100 Walleye in 4 days though which was nice. He caught 200 the previous year on this reservoir, which I won't name on here.

So, basically Farmerkid, if you are happy catching Monster Northern Pike and other species, and not a ton of Walleye, then you will have a good time at the Baskatong reservoir!!! As long as you have some sort of boat/canoe and the water isn't too wavy.

Even if the fishing isn't the best when you go up, enjoy the lake, it's a beautiful place and a huge part of fishing is just being out in these wonderful places and enjoying nature at it's best.

If you want to catch Walleye, buy some yellow curly tail jigs, white jig heads, and some worms. And jig from your boat/canoe down about 30 ft.. jig very lightly and you'll catch something. Even Pike love those jigs. You can even attach a piece of worm to your jig to make it more appealing to Walleye.....

Good luck! And have fun! hopefully you'll catch a monster fish!

Take Care!!!!

Absolutely. I find a big hook like that will go right up through their skull and then there's no fear of losing the fish.

I'm 100% serious. Who cares if it's through thier lip or through their forehead. They all go on the stringer regardless. A big 8/0 reduces lost fish.

I had a great time there. Caught my limit two years in a row. I went up both times Thanksgiving week-end. LOVED it!

The funny part of Camp Esturgeon was the owner! Richard was SUPER nice... but nickle and dimmer to the bone! Every thing you would ask for would be answered with; "Deux piece" (Two dollars) Needed more kindling; Deux Piece!
