Carp Fishing - May 11th

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Carp Fishing - May 11th

Post by Markus »

My daughter Hailee and I threw our lines out for a carp fish this evening. We just threaded a few kernals of corn on a hook and cast them out. We quickly caught our first one and shortly after that, Haille had one on. She lost it when the carp ran through a pile of brush. We moved down the pond a bit, too avoid a repeat performance. She soon had another on the end of her line and this time landed it. She was pleased to say the least.

We fished for an hour and only landed 3 small ones that ranged from 3-5lbs. We'll be going back soon.

They make crappie and perch seem irrelivant when the kids can get out and get fish that big

I know that really got me hooked on them the first time i caught one when all i could hope for before that was something a few lbs...

Gezzz i still haven't got out for them yet... what's wrong with that

We were fishing the pond at the park in the town of Simcoe. It feeds into the Lynn River that runs to Port Dover. There's carp in there year round. They were extremly active tonight. Cruising the surface and rolling and thrashing.

Hailee wan't to stay longer, but we were pushed for time.

I caught a 4lb carp in the mississippi last Saturday.

I released it. I was very pleased with the fight it gave me!

Are they good eating?

How do you cook them?

Nice fish Hailee.

Anyone know where to catch carp around Rockland. Wondering around the launch, thinking the kids could play on the play structure if the carp fishing is slow?

They give a great fight! Loads of reel peel!

You can smoke em, fertilize your garden with em, or toss them back. I'll see if I can get one smoked up for the muskrat trip. Interested people will be able to sample it.

Did Hailee eat the fish she caught? They say the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree.

She always helps me clean all our fish. She likes to see if they are "boys or girls" and then she likes to look in the stomachs to see what they've been eating. She loves to eat fish, as does my youngest and wife.

She was cute. She had to stand behind a bench and brace herself when the carp were making their runs. She laughed the whole time as the line squeeled out of the reel.

I agree Salmon, they are extremely active. Hailee begged me to go back tonight, but unfortunately I had a ball game.

She's got a ways to go to catch Johnathons numbers!

I have to pick the boat up tomorrow from Proctors Marine (my new radio has been installed) and the pond is close to there, so we'll give the pond another go tomorrow night.

That's awesome Markus! I've been doing well on carp in Silver L just on grubs. I can't wait until the spawn is done and they start hitting spinners & flies!
