This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Muskie Report - Updated

Post by MuskieWannabe »

TRIP 2
Hit the Rideau June 10...We just missed the storm....It was windy right until around 630pm, but after that it wasn't topo bad out there. We only fished for around 3 hours or so, managed 1 pike, a LM and SM bass...But, we moved a lot of fish...I think the final count was 5 muskies!!! They were just hitting the lures and not clamping down on them. We had two follow right to the boat, two hit 10' from the boat, and I think the other one was a bit further away...All were seen while casting. Not a bad day on the water, but hopefully more to come.

TRIP 1
Hey there everyone,

Figured the chatter was a bit slow on everyones muskie openers so I thought may as well add mine it to the mix and hopefully get some life into everyone not wanting to share their successes, as I knwo I wasn't the only one to catch a fish...not with that many boats out on the Mad...

I was chucking an inline spinner, black with orange blades, from about 830am until a little after noon. This guy was sitting under a log because I cast the spinner right beside the log and the second it hit the water I had a fish on. He was 34 1/2 - 35 inches. Not a monster but a good start to the season!

There were like maybe 7 boats on the Mad on Sat.
The fishing is not up to par yet.

I caught a 34 inch pike and had a good swipe from a 38-40 incher 4ft from the boat.

Not many caught this opener! On the Mad at least.

I'll be hitting the O once it opens up for sure...I'm not a huge fan of the Mad but she does produce. Hopping to hit the Rideau sometime soon as I have a good feeling about it for this year....Anyone make it out there? It opened this weekend didn't it?

Thanks for the update. My bud and I were out Sunday on the Mad. first time there for me. Damn there were a lot of boats I thought. A lot of guys didn't get much from the shore talk I heard. But lots of nice people. We got a 43 inch Musky on a spinnerbait...by a log. Nice fish. I should have the pictures up in the next day or two. Got to get them downloaded from my friend's cell phone.

Not much else that day (about 5 bass/pike) but we did get a strike on a big wood chopper but she missed it twice. (I missed it on a spook I through back at it when the drag slipped a little...that's all it takes..amateur)

On the Ottawa on Saturday we caught 13 fish. Mostly Pike. Missed a big something when the fog was still thick in the morning but it was fun.

The biggest was about 30 inches I'd say. (took no pic's that day but I promise I'll get that Musky pic up from sunday since I'm just getting serious about going after them specifically and was very very happy to get it)

Finally the water temp was in the upper 60's both days which surprised me. I thought it would still be cooler. I like it that temp. What do you guys think is the best temp for big fish around here? I'm mostly a 1-12 foot deep guy. I don't livebait fish. I basically don't use Jigs either.
But I'd like to get some confidence in that.

Anyway thanks for the pic. I hope a you guys release almost everthing...I release everything except if I somehow catch a Walleye that is good size.
A rare thing since I don't fish for them. That 43 incher swam away nice and healthy I'm happy to report.

Awsome to hear about the 43``. Come out to an MCI meeting to learn WAY more about targetting them. We`re a great bunch and many, many knowledgeable folks!
