I have a hard time believing this still happens, i thought we were all getting along.
as long as they follow the rules I don't see a problem, but I guess it takes all kinds
"Apuzzling spate of violence against Asian-Canadian anglers last summer has moved beyond being a cottage-country squabble. It is now a provincial call to arms, a crusade against profiling that involves the Ontario Human Rights Commission, helicopters, undercover police dressed as fisherman and the threat of a lawsuit."

You hit the nail on the head SnagM:
as long as they follow the rules I don't see a problem
I think that this is great! It is about time that a serious commitment has been made to make sure this does not happen again. This particular thread has showed up on several other fishing boards today, and let me tell ya...the guys wearing the white pillow cases came out in force! The same old redirect was tossed around again and again about poaching and how locals must take the law into their own hands and all that other bunk! Whatever excuse they could use to justify their reasons for hate and violence was adamently stressed! The bottom line is simple, for every dollar the government spends on preventing this sort of thing from happening, it should also be spent on policing our resources! I have often heard the term "White Bucket Brigade" tossed about with great popularity. I will say now, as I have always said, there are ignorant people poaching of every colour and there are ignorant people of ever colour commiting hate crimes and violent acts. None should be accepted, an all should be prosecuted. The law should see no colour and no budget when it comes to the pursuit of peace, justice, and the protection of our Countries citizens (by birth OR by immigration) and our natural Resources combined! We are supposed to be an advanced civilization, lets try to act like it!
That's too funny. I walked a friends dog down the jetty at Dick Bell Park late last week, and guess what?...same thing as I see year after year. Poachers. Yes...with bags and buckets., and numerous trips back to their minivans. Funny thing is, when I asked them how the catfish bite was...they said no fish. I watched from the lot as I left and they canepoled a few 2-3 lb fish out and put in bucket.
The kids they had with them were whipping cranks out.4 inch walleye divers and redfins to be exact. I asked them waht they were fishing for...no answer.!!!
Brutal. Year after year. I called the TIPS line last year....never even got a call back. Does anybody care???..probably not..just concerned anglers.
This is NOT isolated. It is RAMPANT. I am sick of politically correct babies crying and whining when our laws get broken and our fish are stolen!!They do not even have licences for the most part.
I am more sick of all the whiners and "do-gooders" that can find a silver lining in many of these peoples actions than I am the deeds themselves. Shame on you.
Wow! Sorry guys, but this one is so far out there that one must comment. It sure takes a lot of guts to go on an Ottawa based website and call all Government civil servants and employees "Pathetic" and "Lazy"! Thats Rich!
I think this would include Police and fire men and women, your elected officials, and just about everyone who works to protect your right to spew hate without impending punishment! It is good a thing you live in this Country and enjoy all the privilages which you contradict by hating! I think we have found our selfs an enigma. I love Canada man...and every color and creed this flag has to offer. Sorry I don't share in your oppinion, thank GOD I live in place where I can do that!
lol..you live in Toronto (thank god) Where everybody thinks their opinion is the one that matters. Couldn't pay me enough to even make a work call there.
"spewing hate"..lol..that's quite rich as well. You come off as a silly and overly politically correct. Great attempted assumption on my character, yet quite wrong. Spewing truth..yes. I love my country, sometimes too much. Outlooks like yours I believe are what are dragging it down. Again, just my opinion.
If you don't like it...hmm...bugger off chum.. It IS a "discussion board". And that is my opinion based on facts I have witnessed over and over. If you don't agree, I could care less. If you care to defend the actions of those I and others catch poaching all the time...so be it. Don't ever tell people they can't express their opinions on an internet forum though.
Don't bother responding to me by the way. Go sign a petition or something...lol
I see this sort of thing all the time and the biggest problem is the lack of enforcement and penalties when someone is caught. It's not that the game wardens don't want to be out there. They are just terribly underfunded and no one in the government seems to care. They would rather spend a bunch of money on making sure no one hassles the poachers than allow the MNR the money to get out and enforce the rules. I hate to say it but I'm afraid this problem is only going to get worse at least for 3 and a half more years anyway I can see why people are taking the law into there own hands, there sick of no one listening.
Here's what to do if you encounter folks breaking the law like this at your favourite fishing hole. In this day and age many folks carry digital cameras, cell phones, etc. with video capability. Take footage of those breaking the law, point the camera in the bucket if it contains something it shouldn't, follow them to their vehicle, taking video all the way. Email the video to the MNR. You likely won't hear back from them if anything even happens. So go back to your fishing hole, if you encounter offenders again - Repeat the same actions. Would you go back to a spot to be photographed committing a crime? But for the love of God, make sure the people you think are committing a crime actually are - it is NOT a crime to bring a white bucket fishing, speak a foreign language, or fish with a red and white bobber

Just my .02
Great point! When my grandfather came to Canada in the late 50's from Hungary this is how he would fish, bamboo pole, line, red and white bobber, and a white bucket to hold his minnows in. and he didn't speak a word of English either
With all respect to all parties, the issue is only race, or gender, or cultural, if the response of the individual who encounters the situation, reacts with difference based on the race,, gender or culture of the individual involved. If I were to say,... kick the crap out of an oriental raced person for poaching and yet in a similar situation with an anglo saxon were to look the other way it would be racist! Etc. with gender or culture. Hate and abuse are everywhere. All you are debating is motivation!
