Ice Fishing around Calabogie

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Ice Fishing around Calabogie

Post by ValleyFish »

Thinkin' about doing some fishing in and around the Calabogie area, Renfrew County. Anyone have reports of the ice conditions of the area? So far I've been on Muskrat Lake last weekend in Cobden, there seemed to be about 8 inches. Twin Lakes, along Hwy 41 had about the same.

Looking for some good trout lakes that are fairly easy to get to with a 4x4.

Any suggestions?

I think we may head up towards the Barryvale area this weekend.

Where were you on Muskrat, I was there this weekend and there is 16.5 inches under my hut and 11.5 in the middle of the lake at 210' depth.

At the end of McFarland Lane I think it is. Right off Hwy 17. There's a string of shacks along the way out there.

I took the ice scoop to measure and there was probably a good 3-4 inches left on the scoop.

I did notice that there was lot's of pressure on the lake though. After drilling the holes, there was lots of water come up and that made for alot of slush.

We were in a spot where there was about 90 some ft. of water. Seen lots swimming by on the fish finder, but nothing worthwhile coming at us.

Samething for me, my humminbird was humming the whole weekend but nothing was biting so I figured it was just acting up. I finally peered down the hole and saw about a dozen perch just staring at my minnow in a big circle. We didn't end up getting much but the fish were there just weren't biting.

I took the sled down to the end there, guys had driven their trucks right across even in that bay, one guy had plowed a road right across, so I assumed there was min 11.5 everywhere but I guess some are more willing than others.
