BLUE LAKE SPLAKE report

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

BLUE LAKE SPLAKE report

Post by plncrzy »

Hi

Got to Blue lake at 07:00 on Saturday Jan 19. Not knowing the lake or where to go, we looked for shore line drop - offs and fallen trees.

We crossed the lake and headed for a steep point. Luckily we had a Gas auger that made drilling through 11" of hard ice easier.

Water was EXTREMELY clear ... we could see bottom easily in 50 feet water!

what we didnt see was any SPLAKE

We then noticed a few people fishing across the lake near where we had entered the lake. A chat with these locals put us back into another spot where we were told to fish in 30 to 60 feet water .... we left the lake at 12:00 without any fish caught or seen.

The locals however had caught two splake in the 2 - 3 pound range and claimed that they lost one due to line breakage.... and hence must have been a bruiser!

Its a long difficult hike into this lake ... I was lucky enough to have some buddies that were in much better physical condition than myself, otherwise I would still be there trying to haul my stuff out

I can relate to these conditions, We went to a nicea new lake today that is full of bows lakers and splake and although we had good action around the lines we could'nt get hooks into any except one good one that broke me off, however the water was gin clear as well , Early mornings are a good time to fish waters with this type of clarity
