Wolf on the ice in Constance Bay....
Here's a pic of a wolf that was wondering around on the ice early yesterday morning...we thought it was a coyote at first but then my neighbour who's a biologist called me and said he watched it with his telescope and it was a wolf.

wolves
I'm not a hunter or a biologist but more prey generally equals more predators and there sure are a whack of deer around this year.
Except on the Carp ridge apparently, since my buddy has retained his title as the "great white vegetarian" for the second year in a row.
Vegetarian being the indian word for lousy hunter.

Like I said, I don't hunt so I don't know the regs or the local situation either but I don't understand why anyone would kill 18 wolves.
BTW I'm not anti hunting, it just doesn't seem right. If what they did was within the regs then so be it but it sounds excessive.

Re: wolves
If your livelihood was partially dependant upon your livestock, and you lose livestock to predators, then the person has the right to take control of the situation which ever way they choose. Most of these guys are farmers and have lost a higher percentage of sheep and calves in 2007. They are saying that the wolf packs are growing in alarming rates....Joey Rat wrote:I'm not a hunter or a biologist but more prey generally equals more predators and there sure are a whack of deer around this year.

I agree about the high deer population and hunting season normally puts a small dent in that population.....but ask your buddies and talk to butchers that cut and wrap venison if they had a good year this season....My buddy that owns the 200 acres said that this was the first year in over 20 yrs that they have not taken their quota of deer out....other buddies have told me the same thing.....it's not because there are no deer around, it's due to deer being scattered instead of being in herds because of their nervousness and awareness of the wolves....
Anyhow, I didn't want to turn this topic into a debate on Wolf killing....I just wanted to show a picture of a wolf that was fairly close to a residential area!!
