Hey there - as mentioned earlier
Unfortunately no pics at this time as I forgot my camera and my brother has the majority of the photos and video
We arrived at Lady Evelyn after a smooth ride from North Bay - about an hour and 45 minutes - although we hit a major cold snap - our warmest day was 8 degrees - and with the wind on the lake it was freezing - thankfully we packed correctly
We were met by one of the owners of the camp promptly at 9:30 AM and made the portage in. Awesome trip in - basically you are boated up the Lady Evelyn River to ther Dam and then we got out as our gear and the lodge boat was traliered through the dam, then a 15 minute boat ride up the river and into the lake then the lodge. The ride is very scenic and quick
Overall the camp, the lodge, our hosts, cabin and boats i would rate a 9 out of 10 - and you can't beat the price I would estimate that for food, beer and the lodge price (includes cabin, boat, gas, bait and use of all facilities) cost us approx $600 CDN per guy for 4 nights
I would rate the fishing a 6 out of 10
Lady E is a big lake - and we only fished half of it - due to the time of the season, there wasn't a "fishing expert" at the camp for the first two days we were there, so we relied on tips our fellow guests gave us, tips provided by people (some on this forum - thanks) and the map provided by the lodge - we did okay fishing for bass, but we only caught 2 small pickerel and one hammer handle our first two days - and while the bass were plenty - we didn't catch anything over 2lbs. The cold front din't seem to help also as fish were deep
For the next two days we really pumped to awesome gentlemen from Ohio for tips, and the owner of the lodge and while we did better for pickerel and pike - our best fish was a 32 inch pike
The other challenge was that for walleye - the bite really came during pre morning or from dusk until nightfall and the two spots we had success on were a long run from the camp, so it felt like we would get on a good drift and then it would get too dark or to light. And if I am being truly honest the three of us primarily fish for bass and muskie in Haliburton and the kawarthas - this was something new to us - walleye fishing in the fall, on a huge shield lake
All that being said we are already planning on going at the same time next year - feel like we can do better fishing with experience, and as mentioned the place was great - our cabins weere great and the firepit at our cabin, right on the water was an unbeleivable place to have a beer and enjoy a nice cigar. Plus for scenery (we saw moose, eagles, beavers, and the sunsets) was incredible

Trip Report - Lady Evelyn Lake - Spet 13 - 17

The tips were very helpful - so thank you very much!
We did try the rockslide - but were pre warned that the bite hadn't been very good there all year - although we did catch our largest walleye there but that was our only fish
Our best spot for pickerel was at just before the Narrows section - drawing a blank on the name but there is a cottage - dead West of Red Pine across the Bay - the point right by the Island was the hotspot the week we were there - but it was very much a early AM/dusk bite
The fishing was okay - to be honest the last two days we were there we did okay (mainly fishing back bays both in the Lady Evelyn River, one right by a place called Split Rock and at another section called Whitefish bay) but other guys in the camp did much better - the two American gentlemen I mentioned caught a nice stringer of bass and pickerel the last two days - and had one 5lb smallmouth and swore they let two other close to the same size go - they did it mainly using worms and a slip bobber in the back bays or trolling

Yeah the walleye bite is definitely early and very late there. The guide that wasnt available for you would have been Ryan. Too bad you didnt get to go out with him. He is a riot to fish with and very knowledgable. Did you have a chance to try any of the back lakes? Did you try over by the waterfalls/river area??

I fished this lake and stayed at the lodge many years ago and had a spectacular trip. Those guys from Ohio weren't Mennonites were they? The guys we bumped into there from Ohio had been going to Lady Evelyn for many years. The culture was fascinating & amusing all at the same time! Good people and good laughs!
I don't remember the lake being an early and late day lake as we caught some Walleye over eight pounds mid day. One Walleye we swore was a Blue Pike...beautiful muted colors and all. The Smallie fishing was just OK, but I remember jumping one very large fish that threw the hook at the boat. It was a real football.
The best memory I had was seeing the Northern Lights in July on two nights. I can also remember how dark it was and how you needed a flashlight to find your way back to the cabins. First class cabins and lodge for sure, but you really had to put your time in and figure the lake out for fishing...as in any new lake.
Great report and thanks for sharing and restoring some great memories for me.

BigSteve - we didn't try any of the back lakes or head to Frank's Falls - mainly due to time and weather - most days we were there it was very cold and really windy - my Dad is over 65 so the boat ride and the walk into the back lakes would have been tough for him
Ratsotail - I am not sure ifd they were mennonites - they mentioned that they had been coming to Lady Evelyn for 32 years. In terms of daytime/versus early AM - a few guys at the camp did well during the day but they said the fishing was slow for pickerel - they mentioned that on the day they caught 6 pcikerel and one bass - they had fished the same deep hump for 4 hours and caught most of their fish in a half hour. But I would say the majority of the guys in camp did the best early Am and dusk for pickerel - maybe it was due to the cold front etc - not sure - pickerel is definitely not my strong suit in terms of targeting a species

The back lakes can be a very challenging walk so probably a wise choice not to try it with your Dad. Hey if you want to keep trying your luck with Walleye in Northern Lakes, try Kipawa in Quebec. The two lakes are very similar. We did well and I attribute all our success from fishing at Lady Evelyn. It really taught us a different style of fishing that we arent accustomed to. I like learning new and different tactics.

After reading your report, Lady Evelyn (love the name!) sounds like a lake worthy of exploration.
It IS often tough to fish a new lake, especially a sizeable one, but it sounds to me like you guys did it justice & had a great vacation to boot.
Would have been icing on the cake to see some pic's, as now I'd like to know what it looks like there -- but nevertheless, it was a great report.
Next year you'll do even better, I'll bet.
