Arnprior Record back in the news

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Arnprior Record back in the news

Post by (Big Bass Daddy) »

I was surfing the net and came accross this story on ESPN. Its the re-buttle from the person who caught the smallmouth record in Arnprior.

Wow! - interesting to hear the follow-up to all of this; and posted on ESPN! Who knew it would become so huge. Hopefully he Mr. Grail feels somewhat vindicated and start resting easy.

Thanks for posting.
"I couldn't even walk down the street," he said. "People kept asking me why I cut it up. I couldn't sleep. I lost 11 pounds that first week. The phone rang day and night. I had to have my phone number changed, so I could not be contacted.
"I am not a trophy fisherman. I fish for the sport of it.

I got so much grief over this fish, I wish I had never caught it."

I feel bad for the way this guy has been treated.

How would you feel if people treated your dad/grandfather that way?

Its one thing to voice your opinion on whether or not you agree its 12lb, but to start calling him names and harassing him, thats nuts. People were even badgering him just for eating it (not even mentioning the record), but back in his day, the catch and keep anglers were more commonplace, its what he grew up with. I remember reading some colorful messages on this very site about him.

Let the poor guy enjoy his big fish, let him tell the fish tale to his grandchildren and let it be.

WHO CARES?????....
I do...I would have gained 11 pounds or more if I did'nt sleep at night. Nice to see an in depth spin on things after the fact. I know if I caught the record smallie, I'd wrap 'it' in a flannel blanket and read 'it' a bedtime story.....hahaha!

Didn't have time toi read the story but that sounds like a bigger lie then the catch itself. How can they post this on ESPN? LOL

It was definitely a lot of high drama and a bit of BS. That guy had his 15 minutes of fame and then some.
