fitzroy shore fishing.

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

fitzroy shore fishing.

Post by Seabass81 »

I am going to fitzroy saturday to visit my sister who is camping at the park. Is there any good shore fishing from the park? If so a little help please.

John,

You should be able to find some spots there. There's a dock that's often populated by pan-fishers. Given the low water levels at the moment you probably have lots of space in that area to wade, too. The area directly in front of the park is mostly very shallow, so I recommend weedless rigs of whatever sort.

From the dock downstream to the mouth of the Carp River, if you can find a decent spot to cast from, you should be able to snag into pike/bass. I've seen plenty of gar and carp there, if you're into that - as well, the Arnprior area is known for its channel cats.

I don't think I've ever fished from shore there; always rented canoes from the park. If you do happen to rent a canoe, be very careful - if you venture far enough, it can get hazardous with the hydro dams upstream. I usually paddle between the canoe-launch (i.e. beach) and the mouth of the Carp River.

Caught my first bass and first walleye, ever, at Fitzroy Park. Lots of great memories.

Good luck!

It's been a few years but we were camped near the smaller of the two beaches toward the north end of the campground (according to the Ontario Parks map). The water is very shallow but there is a channel between the shore and a small island. I pulled about a 8 lb pike out of that channel on a white Big O early one morning. You can wade or walk out and cast right into the channel. There are also lots of pan fish in the area.
