Public Access at Otty
Public Access at Otty
I would like to take my daughter fishing at Otty Lake but am unable to find any info on where to launch a small boat there (preferrably on South shore.) Anyone been there who could/would provide access info?

After some digging and phoning the twp and some more digging I found a page listed as "Boat Launches - Tay Region":
see http://www.lanarkcountytourism.ca/PageF ... PageID=892
which gives details on how to get to public access launching for Otty Lake, Little Silver Lake, Christie Lake, Pike Lake, and Long Lake.

No one has mentioned the minefields yet, nor the huge crevasses in the glaciers on the approach ...

I used the public access ramp to put in with a 4-wheel drive suv pulling a 14' aluminum last weekend and had no trouble. There were a few holes and pieces of loose mat and stuff on the downslope where other folks had obviously done battle tho. The gravel on the downslope IS a bit sandy and loose and probably doesnt offer much in the way of traction when the 20 degree slope (approx.) is soggy. Expect to get your feet wet at the lauch tho. The water is barely deep enough to float a boat with all 4 wheels dry; while the lake bottom is solid gravel I was reluctant to go in too far with the suv. I suspect that most folks having trouble are dragging out heavier boats when the hill is soupy. The guy who pulled out in front of me was dragging a deephulled 18' aluminum boat with a 4x4 and spun once to get going but then had no trouble skooting up the slope to pack up. There is a nice big turn-around at the top of the hill. Just dont park in the turn-around because it is barely wide-enough for a single-turn pull around and it would make the next guys life more difficult.
