Calabogie to Denbigh trout fishing

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Calabogie to Denbigh trout fishing

Post by brookieseeker »

Morning ladies and gents I'm a new member looking for drive to locations for shore fishing for trout in the Calabogie to Denbigh area.
I want to take my father a retired ex abortsford fishing club member for some day trips for brookies, rainbows or speckles. I've ordered maps from private sites and from the mnr yet without GPS all I've gotten is lost.
I've heard about Oriole lake being a great spot but couldn't find it even with a map so that tells you something about my map reading skills.
Anyways any help would be greatly appreciated and camping areas or cottages for rent on a trout lake would be the ultimate.
Thanks for any help.

brookieseeker,

Oriole lake is a nice spot, my girlfriend and I stayed there for a week. It is in behind the ski hill about 6 kms. If you dont have an atv it would be a dirty walk in. Get yourself the "BACKROAD MAPBOOK" it shows all the trails.

Good luck :)

Hi cliffy!

I made 3 attempts to get into Oriole Lake last year and failed each time with my small 4x4 pickup. Any tips on how to get there would be appreciated. I often see cars parked on the Hwy almost perpendicular to the lake so I assume they are walking in. I hear it is a great campsite and good sized bows in there.

brookieseeker,

If you want a good lake to fish from shore and easy to get to, I suggest Lower Twin Lake just past Toey Lake. Toey Lake is easy to find just past Dacre. Keep on going for a few klicks, keeping your eye to the right. You can actually see Lower Twin from the road. Park at the first road and walk in. Because the lake was lowered by the Highways Dept, you can practically walk around the lake. One thing I won't reveal is where to fish. You'll have to find that out for yourself! You will see where others have been fishing. Actually, they are all good spots. Good luck.

bobfly :)

PS Remember to post your catch to MNR at the end of the season. They need all the help they can get and it helps us. The more fish reported, the more they will stock.

Lower Twin

Thanks for the help Bobfly, I'll definitely take a run up to Dacre as soon as the ice is off the lake it should make for a great day with Pa.

PS. Will definitely take your advice and send the mnr info on what if anything we catch.

Thanks again,

brookieseeker,
While you are there and if you are on the Dacre side of the lake, continue on the path to Upper Twin which has brook trout. Great camping spot. I've never caught any brookies there but others have. Lower Twin is "heavily" stocked with bows. I've seen fishers put out nets to catch minnows and then fish with them. As a diehard flyfisherman, I've not done that but I do catch a lot there on flies.

Bobfly,

I have never seen a truck on the trail, the first section is part of the peaks mountain bike trail. If you go past the hill and head up the highway you will see the trail on your left. follow signs for "eagles nest", go past for about 1.5 kms there is a trail to the right - orange arrow on tree, the is in about another 1 km. This section is narrow an up and down.

Cliffy :)
