Trout Lakes - Calibogie -

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I went 4 out of the last 5 weekends, in fact, I just got back.

Weekend #1 got 1
Weekend #2 got 3
Weekend #3 got 2
Weekend #4 got 3

In fact, I was gonna head into quebec today, but decided to go to bogie cause I knew I would get some.

I have had alot of luck in that area.

If you want a little advice, try some lakes which require a little more effort to get to. You do have to explore the area to find the hot spots.

I can't tell you how many days not only not catching any fish, but not even finding the lake I am looking for ...

Shiner and Scully are good ice fishing lakes with Shiner being the better and more accessible of the two.

Its hard to not catch fish at Shiner especially in the winter, Scully is much more challenging.

On the other side of C. Bogie are several other good trout lakes like Long lake and others. Easy to find, not as easy in the winter... need a 4x4 for sure...

We need to stop telling people about these little treasure lakes....

I was fishing at one of the mentioned lakes. Its nice until about 9/10am, and thats when all the poeple show up.

A small few are OK, nice, respectful people.

And then you get the moochers.

The...can I borrow you auger, can I take some worms, do you have any extra shrimps?

And the: I had nowhere to park, so I blocked you in, but don't worry, if you ask me to move, just give me at least an hour and I will move!

Ohh, the best, a dog mistakened my fishing rod for a play stick. Ran into the bush, and the dog did come back, BUT WHERE DID MY ROD GO!!!!!!
Not even enough decency to tie the dog up, it kept jumping all over my equipment, licking my band saw blade, getting into my food, trying to bite on the fish I caught!

And even though the whole lake is empty, did that guy really have to drill 6 holes all within spitting distance of where I was setup? Best part is, one guy, 6 lines! But of course he didn't care.

I have all but given up for Calabogie this year. It was nice in early January (remember back when the 4" of ice had no snow on top, and with every step you are scared to fall in). That was when people stayed away. But now that there is nearly 2 feet of ice there, everyone is out.

Its time for me to venture north into quebec to those overlooked lakes.

This weekend I am hoping to latch onto some monster pike.

Muskymatt: back when I asked you for advice, the best thing you ever did was tell how to go abouts finding what I wanted. Get a stocking list, get a backroads mapbook and start walking. I say, it was a pain in the beginning, but in the end it was much better than just getting the name of a lake.

Sorry I just couldn't help it... I have to say that as long as these tiny little lakes get broadcasted like in this thread its only going to get worse :(

Thats exactly why I did that crunchy

There are more and we'll get to them , a little further off the beaten path and less likely to have the convienience anglers on them.

Don't fret it , sometimes you just have to look a little harder  :D

Unfortunately posting the name of a lake up there is like a death sentence for it......

About getting to those deep seculded lakes....

Only thing that sucks is the walking part. Getting there is not a problem, your full of energy, and excited to get to the lake and fish, but after waking up at 3:30am, 2 hour drive, 12 hours on the ice, the walk back is the killer.

Note to self: save money, get an ATV
