Crotch Lake Report?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Post by ussbocephus »

Anyone fished up at the Crotch recently? Heading up this Sat. for the annual "fishing week with the guys", and haven't heard anyone mention Crotch Lake recently.. Any reports, first-hand or second-hand, would be great.. thanks

We were there May 24 weekend and had pretty good luck. This time of year your best bet would probably be the narrows and around Colonel Island unless the water level is still up enough in Fawn lake

Was up there the May 24 weekend too... but no luck

We were in a canoe so with the windy, cold weather we didn't fish that much and when we did I paddled more then I fished. Our goal was Colonel Island but my son didn't want to go that far....

We were fishing and camping on Long Island. Lots of traffic there so I imagine some of the boys staying at the cottages I speculate were catching fish.

Clown Worship and I have fished Crotch lake the past 4 years, each time learning more and more. This past May 24 we were there and again the weather was crap for the 3rd cons. year. We did however catch fish this time. Last August Ward set us up with a guide (Fred) good guy, showed us a few things and spots and gave advice, as did Ward and his brother Jeff. They are the main reason we keep going back. As Clown said, the narrows and the bay before it are good spots for pike, bass and walleye. Later in the summer is the best time to fish the lake. In the evening start to troll the deep water as the walleye rise to feed on the schools of baitfish. During the day there are some holes where you can use an 1/8 ounce jig tipped with worm to catch walleye. And there are smallmouth bass everywhere, even in the deep as I found out trolling in 70 feet of water at about 15 - 20 ft. down, thought I had a huge eye. Good luck and let us know how you guys do, we are going back up for the week of aug. 5-12. Say hi to Ward for us my name is Don and clowns name is Eric from Ottawa. He knows us.
