February 2nd I managed a quick afternoon outing. Not alot to report. I caught a small brookie... I mean small too. 7-8 inches maybe.
February 10th I got out a second time. Weather that day was awesome. For the morning I just drove the truck up to a brookie spot I know and put a couple hours in. It was a tough outing. I went 0 for 8. All real small brookies I would bet except one fish of about 16-18" that I lost at the hole. Here's a pic of the scenery at my spot.

The snow at one point from the truck to me was chest high. There had been a wicked snow storm for 3 days just prior to that day.
That afternoon I tried my luck at a couple other spots. Took the skidoo. Not a bite to be had.

Today was the last shot at february fishing for 2006. I decided walleye and pike were the quarry. After getting off a 12 hour nightshift I zipped home to catch 2 1/2 hours sleep then pack up and get out on the ice by 1:00. I was armed with some thawed out dace left over from October. They weren't in great shape but their heads still had some solidity so they stuck pretty good on the hooks. A Mr.Champ on the jigging rod and a 4 1/2" Williams Whitefish on the "Pike-inator2005," I got to work. Man I was tired. Just laying on the skidoo giving the odd jerk on the Champ I felt a tap. A second later a hit. It was on.

17 1/4 inch eye came up for a pic. My first of the year. I put him back cause Bren still has about 4 in the freezer, and with Kesagami coming up Bren should have about another 20 in there right after.
I cracked a brew after that fish. A Moosehead.

When I returned my jiggin' rod was off the gad laying on the ice. Upon inspection nothing was there. Turning around I noticed the "Pike-inator2005" had sprung. It has a bell but it didn't ring. Grabbing the line I felt good weight right away and after a quick tussle my first pike of the year was landed. A nice 29"er.

I actually moved on afterwards to try a new spot for pike, but, all I found was 40+ inches of ice and slush.
That was february. Turned out OK but I'm glad it's almost over. March is when the fishing picks up.
