Here`s my idea of a rod rack.

For anyone interested in a rod rack I made this one cheap. It`s on the ceiling of my garage so when ever I want some species specific rod I jump in the boat and pic the rods I want for the outing.To the far right is a smaller rack for ice fishimg rods. Some say rods should be stored verticle but I feel with the right support horizontal isn`t going to hurt them. The pounding in the boat damages them more!!! Specially at todays speeds.

Pretty nice set up Teppy. Theres one spot still open on the left for a combo though.Is Ted G still running Top Bass or a part of it..??

As far as I know Ted is still running it.I have fished that series for the past 5 yrs. There is no open spots on the rack Ther is 4 more combos in the boat on the floor As I always tell the wife.....never enough

now, i use my racks the same way...

problem is, i've been told by four different people that storing my rods in that horizontal fashion will ruin the blanks...

why? how? i dont know...but it came from knowledgable folks...

i store my rods virtually the same way....but am wondering if this method will cause a problem, as i'm told.

mabe if we put plastic tube on the wall and just incert them inside,,,,,all the weight would be stertch all the way not only in 2 spot.......just a taught..... .i wish i no........

your probably right about the tubes joco.

i was told distributing the weight of the rod on only two spots will affect the blanks....

but until i hear for sure...my rods will stay like this:

That may have been true in the past Steve but with today’s rods I’m not so sure that still holds. I could be wrong, I’m no expert. But I’ve not had one warped that I can tell by storing them this way. Besides, I keep breaking them on fishing trips long before they have a chance to warp.

No store Joco, just my garage and no, they are not for sale. I just have a preference for spinning reels. I see you have a few outfits yourself. Like Teppy says “never enough”. I don’t like to re-tie

I could see a storage issue if you made too wide a gap but if it's kept relatively close, should be ok I would think..

I just pile 'em all in the garage..May have to do something like this soon

I recently purchased a new Fenwick rod and while I was registering the warranty I asked them the question about rods warping when storing horizontally.

My question:
I recently purchased a HMG GS70MH rod. I have several rods and I store
them horizontally on a wall rack during the winter and when not in
use. The rack is 4 feet wide so there is no arch in the middle of the
rod while hanging.
I have often heard and it recently came up during an on-line discussion
that this type of storing will warp the rod. Is there any truth to
that or is it a myth?

Fenwick’s response:
The only reason you would get warp in a rod would be if you leave the lure taught and the rod tip is being pulled down or any other source that would put pressure on the rod so it is not at a resting position. Any force that puts a slight bend in the rod for a period of time can create a warp in a rod.

I have also had the same experience and my rods are always now stored in the vertical position at home. If you look also that is why all the retailers have there rods stored and displayed vertical as well.

I remove my rods from their tubes (if any) and then in a closet, I hang the rods in their cloth bags from the rod in the closet.

The 1 piece, 6 1/2 foot casting rod is tied lightly to the closet rod so that it stays up vetically.

I believe they are only stored vertically in stores so they are easier for customers to look at. Plus it would take alot of wall space to have all of there rods hanging in horizontally across the walls. It does not hurt the rod to be stored horizontally;however, it does if it is bent from a lure or leaning up against stuff that would cause it to be bent. Evenly supported does not hurt it.
Like I said earlier....They take way more abuse in the boat being bounced around.

I have to agree with Teppy. As long as their resting evenly and there’s no bend in the rod for whatever the reason, I think they’ll be fine. That's also the way I interpreted Fenwick's response.
