Large Pike from Dow's Lake

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Larry,

Alot of people discount what the Canal really has to offer! I've seen some reeeeeeeel pigs, be it bass, carp, pike and even eyes out of the canal in many year aswell!!!!

Try a topwayer at dusk anywhere there is surface weed in the summer, and you'd be suprised

Also Big Jim gave me a crappie spot to give a whirl to aswell :D

A nice fish to catch anywhere, let alone offshore :)

Three cheers for the Canal

I know exactly where he is standing too. He also has a couple of bass pictures on the same web-site, caught in the same area.

shhh: 8). I do alot of crappie fishing there in the spring. I didn't do so well last spring but two years ago I remember catching 100 crappie in a day between my friend and I. It recieves alot of pressure from catch/keep sunfish anglers but not too many serious anglers fish it. I have a secret ridge where I can always see some nice bass on the canal but they seem to be very spooky. One fish that FF missed is muskie...but I won't get into that

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that's one top heavy pike. Seems awfully skinny for it's size.

Still, I wouldn't mind old bones on the end of my line!

Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

Terrible looking pike. Id rather have a healthy 30" over that bag of bones 39.99" pike. :P :P :P

I live about 2 1/2 blocks from the canal... nevermind my poor performance in skating (I didn't go once last year and haven't gone this year either)... but I HAVE to get out some evening this year to make a few casts. At the very least... just to practice with my baitcaster!!

I've never caught a crappie... and I'm not looking to "steal" any secret spots, but if someone could help me out in the area some time, I'd appreciate it! :)

cheers,

Tallpaul, I catch crappie right off the end of the floating docks along the boardwalk near the boat house. As well as perch, pumpkinseed, bluegill and bass. Nothing big, but the action is usually pretty good. However, as yungflyfisher stated, the catch and keep people (if it swims, keep it) are doing a number on the stocks. I have noticed a difference in just two summers.

People fill buckets full of sunfish, rockbass,...whatever...they even clean them on site
