MT and Bacon - cruising the icy seas

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

MT and Bacon - cruising the icy seas

Post by M.T. Livewell »

Bacon landed at my place somewhere near the 9am mark this morning. We loaded up the VIP, and pulled the boat and trailer through the snowy driveway, headed to Rockland.
I had checked the launch on Friday and it was accessible. Well, it was 2 days ago. This morning when we arrived, there was a little bit of an ice build up.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/ ... Launch.jpg">

Undaunted, the VIP did quick duty as an ice breaker to get beyond the solid stuff. Luckily, it wasn't very thick at all.
As we looked out onto the water, the wind was blowing and the water was rough, well, at least the part that wasn't frozen. Now, normally I like to stay out of the rough water, but when it is the only part that is safely navigatable, well, you do what you gotta do.
We hit the Quebec shoreline and trolled east, zig-zagging between 10 and 20' on the break, and doing our best to stay clear of the frozen shallows.

We reached the old ferry crossing, then slowly made our way back along the Ontario side.
Unfortunately no fish to report. But our lures have never been cleaner. The highlight of the day was catching a stump near clarence creek. :?

It was definitely a cool day out there. Any of the larger waves making their way over the bow left the minnkota with icicles that would make an Xmas tree blush, and the front deck was a frozen rink that even RJ would be proud of (forget the rink rate ... troll!).

Decided towards the end that today would be the day the VIP goes down for her winter nap (boat forum).
Thanks Bacon, had a good time. Look forward to checking out the new and improved hut on the hard water.

Reading your post made me cold!

Manly men, you guys are!

Pretty soon you'll be walking on the water, by the looks of things.

Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.
