Missing Duck Hunter - Long Point Bay

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Missing Duck Hunter - Long Point Bay

Post by Markus »

I noticed the search planes and helicopters pass overhead today. I knew immediately what that meant and I had hoped it was a training excercise.

It's not.

Sadly, there is a 52 year old Hamilton man missing on the bay. Apparently they've found his boat, but still have not located him.

I hope this ends well. Very cold temps last night and for tonight again. :?

I wish there was a way they could contact local boaters that are properly equipt so we could help with the search.

Very sad. I really hope he is ok and they find him soon.

I wonder about sometimes when fishing alone. If I fall out, the boat will keep going. Is there anything on the market that will stop the engine when I fall out of the boat? I'd use it if I could get something.

Yes Bosc. Your lanyard cord should be attached to you and your kill switch.

He's been missing since Saturday...reported missing Monday by co-workers. Doesn't look good.

It's unfortunate this happened, also underscores why you really shouldn't head out on the lake by yourself

I would think it will become a recovery search as opposed to a rescue

The cold temps plus the frigid air= not a good situation.

I remember when I nearly drowned in Erie back in 1999, it was the middle of July and I was amazed how cold the water was the further I drifted out. Thankfully somebody was with me and hollered at a nearby boater or I wouldn't be here...

As much as I was hoping to get out one last time before the boat was stored away , stories like this remind me that its not a great idea without the right gear .

The OPP Marine unit found his body yesterday. Sad news indeed.
