Return from my first Quinte Trip

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Well done DH. Glad the trip was a success.
It's too bad they are not 'jumping in the boat' like they were about a month ago. But, with that said, any you hook up with are usually world class fish.

So, are you happy you didn't cancel your trip?

Excellent! I broke down and used planer boards for the first time this year too. It weren't so bad! In fact - it went remarkably well in terms of catching fish and in not winding up with a huge mess of mono - well sort of. Bobber and I had one incident two Sundays ago that looked pretty harsh for a few minutes but we got it untangled - and we got the fish. Another learning experience.

Fishhawk,
I also get some major tangles with in-line boards, sometimes you can not avoid them  The boards out fish long-lines on clear water so I figure the odd tangle is worth it.

BTW you have to give them a try next summer for suspended smallies, I have caught some beautiful Small Mouth Bass only a few feet below the surface while trolling for suspended walleye.

Fishhawk has moved to the in-line planer dark side...
May the outward force be with him!

Fish til' you drop...

Hey Fishhawk

It was my first time and it went fairly well, we had a couple of tangles but that is expexted, guess it comes with the territory. :o

I just want what do you do when you want to change the lure on the outside board. Do you reel both boards in or do you try and bring the outsided board in behind the inside board.

I am already waiting for next fall. How is the fishing in the spring at Quinte. Is it the same kind of fishing?

DH...
To bring in an outside board you just flip the line release on your reel and turn the boat towards to outside board you want to bring in. Let the board fall back as you are letting out line, once it is straight back behind the boat...point your rod tip at the in-line board and reel it in quickly. It will take some practice, but I do it all the time with the off-shore boards to change up cranks. When you want to let it back out to the outside position -- let out the board with lots of line behind the boat, then reel in the extra line until the board falls in place outside the inside board.

Cheers'

Spring fishing is also good around late may off Thompsons and Sherman Pt along with Glen Island. Troll your stickbaits over 30 to 50ft of water dowm 10 to 20ft.Fish up to 30 inches but alot thinner fish,up to 9,10 pounds. During the opener you may get some late spawners heading back to Lake Ontario, see ET for these options.

Now all I need is to drive thru lake effect snows( up to 2 ft   )this weekend.
My wife thinks I may be Certifiably Nuts right now.

roughrider out
