I got out this morning before I had to head to work. I've been dying to try out the new float rod and reel. I've only used a float rod an reel one other time and although successful, I had a coach with me. I wanted to break my set up in solo.
I hit the creek this morning with very low expectations....I looked at it as more of a practice day. I got onto the drifts pretty quick, but my casting needs a lot of work.
After a few trial drifts, I felt I was ready to work some water. The very first spot I walked up onto had fish written all over it. I got my drift right where I wanted it first shot and....dunk! Floats gone! Fish on! My heart was pounding, I knew it wasn't a big fish, but it was a fish!
After a little tussle, I had him under control.My first bow on the new float reel. Sweet.
I moved down the creek further and started working another stretch. The float disapears again! I love setting the hook with a noodle rod.
Fish on! Another bow....a bit smaller than the first, but still another!My second bow on the new float reel.
I haven't felt this proud and excited about catching a small fish in a very long time.
What did I learn today? I learned a few things.
1. I need casting leasons.
2. There's a feeling in your gut when you see your float work its way throuh a good drift and you know it's gonna disapear.
3. Having the float disapear is an awesome high.
4. Making your way through the bush with a float rod and reel takes a little more care and time.
