Landing Shore Muskie

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Landing Shore Muskie

Post by Jair »

Just wonderin' if anyone knew any effective techniques in landing Muskie
from shore other than gilling them. Most of my buddies aren't brave enough to trek where I do to get them so I'm usually alone when I catch'm. Just wondering if there's a way I could craddle them if I was alone. I use a Boga grip in the cooler months but their mouths are way too soft in the summer. Really don't want to injure this awsome fish. I'm
also a new hawker and really am enjoying the site. Was picked up on
shore by a fellow Hawker a couple of weeks ago for an afternoon fish
at Black Rapids........Super nice guys......Thanks again PJ & Dr.??? Hey
Float, Where you at???

Hey Boga, welcome aboard!!

There's quite a few Muskie boys here I'm sure they've got any number of ways to bring a muskie in to shore...

The folks on this site are amazing.. total open arms and ready to go anytime!

If your going to be alone , take a pic of it in the water 8) , and have some good pliers and cutters with you so that you can water release it :D . There is no need to handle it as you won't be able to get a good pic of you and the fish anyhow... This can also save you and a fish from a world of "hurt", if ever you get a hook lodged in your hand

Almost forgot: Welcome to the best site on the net.... 8)

I solved that problem by buying a boat. :D

Haven't caught a difficult fish off shore since.

I'd go with a gaff

Pretty good chance that once their belly is on the rocks that they'll break the line.

Try to keep a wildy thrashing fish off the rocks, or it will be in a world of hurt. If I fish them from shore I try to find somewhere there is deeper water at shore or some sand.

HOF has some solid advice.

Good luck
